Puppy Love

Image
The rain grabs my calves They spasm in pain It's a cold night that bares Wishes buried I try and laugh it off But for the snarl Which I try to muffle To get it lost in the rain A queer kind of thudding Someone's asking to go out Whining at my doorstep/ scratching Like a dog on a scent I can't say no to the puppy within The poor beaten thing I hear him howling into the wind In the nights when tears spring into my eyes The silence isn't answer enough But I let him out anyway Pity strives to stay my hand But this lesson isn't mine to be learnt. The Speluncean Explorers

Photo by  Bruno van der Kraan  on  Unsplash Since I left law school, I've realized that most people view the law as beyond their understanding. Intimidating, even. This is mere perception. Most legal matters can be translated into forms that make them easy to understand. So I want to share the first article I ever read in law school - The Case of the Speluncean Explorers  by Lon L. Fuller. The wiki summary of this (28 page) article can be found here.   The article was inspired by the infamous case of R vs Dudley and Stephens . Dudley and Stephens were shipwrecked along with two other men. When one of the other men - a cabin boy named Richard Parker - fell into a coma, he was killed and eaten by Dudley and Stephens. They were tried for murder after being rescued, found guilty, and sentenced to death. Considering that Dudley and Stephens would have died if they hadn't done what they did, public opinion called for mercy. In the end, they got a sentence of imprisonment f

Throwback: Getting Started (Femme Fatale)

This was my first blogpost ever - way back in 2008. That blog is no longer public, but I figure I can transport some of those posts on to here. Note: It's been edited for terrible  sentence structure and internet lingo. That was a bad phase. We've all been there. And  I've added little notes from my present day reading of it, which leaves me in splits - those edits are in red. Hmm.. Look who's just jumped on the blogging bandwagon! Blogs have always been someplace for me to kill other people with my tales of sorrow and misery and whatnot.. [Dramatic, wasn't I?] Anyway, considering my addiction to writing n journals, let's just say I'm not too surprised. First off, I'm not exactly in the happiest of moods after my 10th board FIASCO. There aren't many other words that can describe it so well. [I can think of a.. No, actually, that describes it pretty well.] I mean, come on. After 10 whole years of prep, when almost everyone on earth gets bett

Love In The Rain

The Start Of The Same Old Story

Photo by  luizclas  from  Pexels I dare myself To open this door / to smile At the girl in the mirror In the room beyond I've heard this tune before At night outside my window Always just beyond my reach Cupid's sprite haunts me again Teasing me in the breeze That blows my hair back The silence is chilling There's no way to know Mistakes I'm done with The madness was gone But it's knocking at the back gate Out there in the garden I pause to think Dare I let it in again? - Written July 9, 2010 (Now available as part of my published eBook here .)

Feminism, Apathy and the Opportunity Cost of Fighting Dragons

The older I become, the heavier the weight of the patriarchy becomes. All the steps I take towards freeing myself seem to lead only to new traps. And so I slowly realize the vastness of the problem. How intricate, how insidious it is. I grew up on a diet of mythology and medieval honor codes. Of bravery, chivalry, and honesty. Of Robin Hoods and standing up for what's right. It would seem that I foolishly imbibed the wrong lessons during
