Is It ADHD or Is It Stress

My priority #1 is always whatever is right in front of my face, which is also why my brain thinks writing a blog post about it instead of actually doing those things is the most important thing right now.

Jack of All Trades, Master of Most

Last month, I went for a slew of increasingly exhausting and depressing job interviews. My experiences can be summed up as a combination of "don't want to pay you" and "you're a fresher, you don't have experience in this field." It was irritating to say the least. One encounter that stood out to me was with an HR person at a small financial firm ensconced in a claustrophobic office. I never even spoke with an actual person in the field I'd be working. Just her. She told me flat out that she (they) wouldn't pay more than 16,000/- a month. 🙄 She also questioned me, with great superciliousness, on how "diverse" my CV seemed to be. "I get that you're confused," she told me. "I've been there myself." I looked at the woman in her prim navy blue formals, complete with neatly done hair and polished shoes. (So unlike the chappals I defiantly prefer. And so unlike the faded salwars or tired white shirts the ot...

"The Spirit of Husband Repelling"

Photo by  David Rodrigo  on  Unsplash I'm currently awaiting my Burger King order to be home delivered, and reading Americanah . I'd delayed reading the book, not wanting to delve into something heavy. I was also under the impression (because I'm a moron) that the word "Americanah" referred to a stylized version of Americana - the telling of American folk stories. Americanah is, instead, the Nigerian word for "American" - it's used in the book to mockingly refer to Nigerians who become Americanized.  There's a lot to relate to in this book - most astonishing, perhaps, is how men manage to be the same around the world - always failing to come up to mark. Always immature. Always playing games. But in terms of what I relate to the most, it is perhaps the life of someone who has lived across borders, across cultures, who struggles with their identity.  Nine years ago was the beginning of the end. Almost a decade of my life not spent in...

The Work-Disability Balance

Photo by  BRUNO CERVERA  on  Unsplash Corporate life is not meant for those with mental health issues. I panic. I can't deal. I hate people who have high functioning versions of depression or anxiety. How fucking ridiculous is that.  ---  I switched to another tab to look up high functioning and low functioning and completely forgot that I'd written the above paragraph.  Also, I've changed my mind. High functioning doesn't mean what I thought it did. It means someone who's able to maintain a positive profile in their public and professional life, as opposed to someone like me, who's unable to hide it.  [Source]  Perhaps high functioning is even more stressful than low functioning, because it can't be easy to keep up the performance.  Work life needs to be more sensitive to physical and mental health issues. Work life needs to recognize that it's populated by human beings, and not machines. Work life needs to stop rewar...
